Release post delay

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, I am having a few problems with my computer and am unable to upload my release pictures. I have my husband working on it so hopefully my first post will be up later today. Until then you can check out Nichole and Erin's blogs to see a few projects using the latest addition in the Polka Dot Parade series.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Background Basics: Birthday Fun & Polka Dot Parade #2 - Day 5

Hi everyone! We have made it to the final day of the countdown. Thanks so much for visiting with me over the past 5 days and for all of your kind comments on these two new sets. I'm excited that you're excited about them! :) I am looking forward to seeing all of your projects around the web using Polka Dot Parade #2 and Background Basics: Birthday Fun. Before we get to the final projects let me recap both of these sets...

Background Basics: Birthday Fun:

  • features 2 background strips and 2 background blocks
  • will retail for $18
  • will be available for purchase starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website

Polka Dot Parade #2:

  • features 8 images - 1 stem/leave image, 1 cluster of outlined flowers, 3 polka dot flowers, 2 sentiments including a large polka dot 'HELLO', 1 butterfly
  • will retail for $5
  • will be available for purchase starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website
  • has coordinating dies

4

For card #1 I started by stamping the bottom portion of my Spring Moss card base using the Polka Dot Basics stamp set. I cut a piece of white cardstock to 3.25 x 4.25 and then started stamping my images. All of the images are from Polka Dot Parade #2 except for the bottom 'Thinking of you today...' birthday sentiment, which is from Make A Wish. I added a piece of Aqua Mist ribbon to the side a well as a Plum Pudding button to finish it.

5

For card #2 I started again with a Spring Moss card base and then stamped this one using the new Background Basics: Birthday Fun stamp set. I stamped the three gifts across my white cardstock using Lavender Moon, Aqua Mist, Ripe Avocado and Plum Pudding. I added that to my card front and then added a Lavender Moon bow. I used the Make A Wish stamp set again for my sentiment.

3

For card #3 I mixed one of the new backgrounds in Background Basics: Birthday Fun with the Sweet As Can Be stamp set. I started by stamping my background in Aqua Mist, added a strip of ruffled ribbon and Lavender Moon ribbon. I then die cut my cone and ice cream scoop and stamped the images inside. After adhering it to my card front I attached a Aqua Mist button and cherry leaves from Fruit Fusion: Cherries. Lastly, my sentiment was stamped.

That completes this months countdown for me! I've so enjoyed sharing my projects with you. There are a few more stops that you won't want to miss...

Polka Dot Parade #2 - Day 4

Hi there! I apologize for the delay in my posting. I have a few cards to share using Polka Dot Parade #2 today. I'll have more projects for you tomorrow using Background Basics: Birthday Fun. Let's get right to the cards...

**Both of these new sets will be available starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website.**

1

Todays cards are all HELLO cards...you can never have enough of those. I started by stamping a bunch of 1" strips using the flower images in Polka Dot Parade #2 as well as the polka dots from the Polka Dot Basics stamp set. All of my cards measures 3.5 x 5 so these 1" strips layer perfectly, one right over the other. I added a little embellishment to each card. On this first one I die cut the butterfly from Love Lives Here and then added a die cut flower from Polka Dot Parade #2.  The leaves are from Heart-2-Heart #7.

2

The embellishement on this next card was created with a flower die from the Beautiful Blooms ll #2 die collection as well as the flower die from Flower Fusion #10. The polka dot brad is one I've had in my stash for quite some time...I think it's from Making Memories. Again, the leaves are from Heart-2-Heart #7.

3

And on this one more flowers and leaves from Heart-2-Heart #7. I also added a white Rickrack strip to the top of each card.

6

And here is the last card for today. I cut 3 strips of cardstock...Raspberry Fizz, Melon Berry and Spring Moss. Each strip was stamped with the HELLO stamp in it's matching color. I also stamped each one with a polka dot flower. The leaves are from Everyday Button Bits. And lastly, I added 'How are you?' ...from Heart-2-Heart #4.

I'll see you all tomorrow for one last post before the big release. Here is the rest of the design team and links to their projects...

Background Basics: Birthday Fun & Polka Dot Parade #2 - Day 3

Hello there! So glad you are joining me for day 3 of this months Papertrey Ink countdown. I have a few more simple cards for you today using both of my new sets...Background Basics: Birthday Fun and Polka Dot Parade #2.

**Both of these new sets will be available starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website.**

Let's jump right in...

2

So for today I am using the same layout on each card as well as all the same colors...Hibiscus, Orange Zest, Lavender Moon and Ripe Avocado. For card #1 I mixed the polka dot flowers from Polka Dot Parade #2 with the flowers from Heart-2-Heart #7 and created my own floral design on my cardstock. The frame that my sentiment is stamped on was die cut from the My Mother, My Friend die collection. I added a single die cut flower to the side of my frame and a few rhinestones to finish it off.

6

Up next is a sweet little card perfect for a little princess in your life. I mixed the images from Little Princess with the stems and polka dot flowers from Polka Dot Parade #2 to create this layout. For the tops of the towers and the castle door I stamped the outlined castle image onto a piece of Hibiscus cardstock and then trimmed each section out and adhered them over my stamped castle. This card just makes me smile! :)

11

I created a little cluster of flowers on this next card using all three sizes of the Polka Dot Parade #2 images. The leaves are from Heart-2-Heart #7 and were stamped in Ripe Avocado. The sentiment 'You are beautiful inside and out' is from Simply You.

8

And lastly for today is a card created with the Background Basics: Birthday Fun set. I started by stamping my birthday words background along the bottom of my white cardstock in Hibiscus ink. Next, I stamped a row of gifts using the trio gift image. Again, I used the frame from My Mother, My Friend die collection and stamped my sentiment, from All About You.  For the gifts around my sentiment I stamped the trio of gifts 3 times using all 3 colors of ink. I then cut one of the gifts out of each one and adhered them around my frame.

Here are a few more stops for you today that you will not want to miss...

Background Basics: Birthday Fun & Polka Dot Parade #2 - Day 2

 11

Hello again! Welcome back for day 2 of the Papertrey Ink March countdown. I have a lot more polka dots for you today using the new Polka Dot Parade set as well as a birthday card featuring the new Background Basics: Birthday Fun set.

**Both of these new sets will be available starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website.**

The colors I chose to work with today are Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse, Berry Sorbet, Lemon Tart and Sweet Blush. Each card measures 3.5 x 5.

1

Up first are a few cards using the Polka Dot Parade #2 set. I used the Spiral Notebook Page die on each of these cards. I stamped 'HELLO' in each of the colors I mentioned above and then added 'Sending you a happy' just above them. I added a fabric flower that I made and a Berry Sorbet button to finish it off.

3

Using the same layout on this card I started by stamping my flower stems in Simply Chartreuse and then moved onto stamping my flowers. I added my 'Hello' using Pure Poppy ink and then added a Sweet Blush button.

7

For this next card I mixed the newest Polka Dot Parade set with Polka Dot Parade #1, that was released last month. One of the things I know I am going to enjoy about these sets is the fact that they will all coordinate with one another! Gotta love that! My bunny was stamped in Berry Sorbet and then I stamped my flower stems on either side of her. After stamping my flowers I added a bit of grass from the Hanging out set. Again, I finished it off by adding a button.

9

And last but not least for today is a card created using the new background set...Background Basics: Birthday Fun. The bottom portion of my card was stamped using the birthday words background. Above that I added a strip of Simply Chartruese cardstock that was die cut using the medium scalloped border die. Using the same trio of presents I used on my card yesterday I stamped one above the other and then added 'happy birthday' from Make A Wish.

That's a wrap for day 2. I hope you have enjoyed what I've shared today. You can see more projects using this months new products from these ladies...

Introducing Background Basics: Birthday Fun & Polka Dot Parade #2

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well. Here we are for the March Papertrey Ink countdown. I have two sets to share with you for this months release...Polka Dot Parade #2 and a new background set, Background Basics: Birthday Fun.

Gifts

Let's start with the new birthday set...

Background Basics: Birthday Fun:

  • features 2 background strips and 2 background blocks
  • will retail for $18
  • will be available for purchase starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website

6

This birthday card features one of the background blocks in the Background Basics: Birthday Fun set. I stamped my 3 gifts one on top of the other using Sweet Blush, Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist and Simply Chartreuse.

  7

The sentiment is from Think Big Favorites #12.

    Pdp2

Polka Dot Parade #2:

  • features 8 images - 1 stem/leave image, 1 cluster of outlined flowers, 3 polka dot flowers, 2 sentiments including a large polka dot 'HELLO', 1 butterfly
  • will retail for $5
  • will be available for purchase starting March 15th on the Papertrey Ink website
  • has coordinating dies

16

Here is a sweet hello card featuring the polka dot posies in the new Polka Dot Parade #2 set. The flower stems/leaves are one image, making it super quick and easy when creating. There is also a cluster of four outlined flowers in the set that stamp perfectly above the stems. I didn't use that image on this card but instead just used the individual polka dot flowers.

12

'Just wanted to say' is from Heart-2-Heart #4. A strip of lace and a Pure Poppy button complete this.

18

I created a cute one layer card using a few different sets on this next card. I stamped my stems and flowers from Polka Dot Parade #2 across the front of my card. I then pulled out Hanging Out and stamped the grass image beneath the flowers. The sun is from Back Pocket Basics and then little bird is from Tweet Talk.

19

'Sending you a happy' is one of the sentiments and is separate from 'HELLO'.

21

Here is a bright and cheery card that was stamped with all three of the polka dot flowers in the set. I also used images from Everyday Button Bits for the leaves.

20

I added a strip of Hawaiian Shores cardstock, that I had stamped with the Sew Simple Borders mini set, and a few buttons.  'Sweet friend' is from Heart-2-Heart #4.

  14

For this last card I stamped the tree trunk from Tree Tops onto the front of my card and then used one of the polka dot flowers from PDP #2 to create my tree. I stamped two tiny butterflies and added a bit of twine to complete it.

That completes day 1 for me. Nichole, Betsy and Erin all have projects to share with you using both of my new sets. Plus, these ladies all have projects for you using their new products...

  • Dawn McVey
  • Heather Nichols
  • Lexi Daly
  • Maile Belles

Thanks for stopping by! Until tomorrow...

~Melissa

Fabric flower tutorial

A few of you have contacted me about those fun fabric flowers I created on one my cards during the Papertrey Ink countdown. They are so fun and easy to make...I thought I would put a little tutorial together for you.

1

Of course, the first thing you are going to need is fabric. I picked this pattern from one of my favorite fabric designers, Joel Dewberry. This is from his Notting Hill collection.

2

After you have selected your fabric you are going to need a backing for your flower. I have been using Papertrey Ink's Vintage Cream felt. It's neutral so it's goes with just about any fabric I use and it also goes through my die cut machine like butter. You could hand cut a piece of felt free hand but I find it easier to run it through my machine then to sit and try to create a perfect circle by hand. I use one of the Spellbinders circle dies to die cut my felt to create all of my flowers like the one I'm sharing with you today.

4

Now, here is where your free hand cutting will come in. I cut about 45 circles out for each flower....give or take depending on how full you would like it. Die cutting fabric isn't as smooth as die cutting felt so that's one of the reasons I just hand cut them. Also, they do not need to be perfect...in fact the less perfect, the better.

5

To start your flower you will need to gather the very middle of each of your fabric circles....just like you see me doing above.

6

Then you can start adhering them around the outer part of your felt circle. I use a hot glue gun when making these but you could use whatever method of attaching these that you would like. Hot gluing works best for me.

7

This is what it will look like after the outer part of your felt circle is filled in. You do the same thing on the inside. Work your way around until you have reached the middle. You really can not mess it up!

8

Voila! This is the finished flower. You could leave it just as is...

9

or fancy it up a bit with a button and felt leaves!

I hope this helps those of you who were curious how they were made. I've made about 75 of these babies so far and can't seem to stop. They are scattered all over my craft studio!

10

Happy creating!
~Melissa

My Mother, My Friend & Polka Dot Parade #1 - Day 5

6

Hello everyone...Happy Valentine's Day! We have made it to day 5 of the Papertrey Ink countdown posts which means that all of the new products will be available starting tomorrow night, the 15th, at 10PM. I have one last post for you...keeping it short and sweet for today! Before we jump in let me give you a quick recap on both of my new sets...

My Mother, My friend:

  • features 24 images - 1 large frame, 3 sentiment frames, 11 sentiments, 5 flowers, 3 background strips
  • will retail for $24
  • will be available for purchase starting February 15th on the Papertrey Ink website
  • has coordinating dies

Polka Dot Parade #1:

  • features 10 images - 1 bunny, 2 flowers, 1 bunny tail, 6 mix & match sentiments including a large polka dot 'BUNNY'
  • will retail for $5
  • will be available for purchase starting February 15th on the Papertrey Ink website
  • has coordinating dies

1

To end the countdown I decided to create a set of Easter tags using the Polka Dot Parade #1 set.  I chose a variety of different colors to work with today and started by die cutting and stamping all of my bunnies.

8

I created 8 tags total and just mixed my colors around and had fun with the images. I used the Tag Sale #1 die and stamped the bottoms of each tag using the bitty floral background image in My Mother, My Friend. Next, I stamped a few flowers on each side of the tags and adhered my bunnies to the center.

9

And here are the rest of them all assembled and looking cute!

5

That completes all of my projects for this countdown...I hope you've enjoyed! And here are the rest of the ladies with more to share...

  • Nichole Heady
  • Dawn McVey
  • Lizzie Jones
  • Maile Belles
  • Heather Nichols

Thanks for popping in...have a wonderful day!

My Mother, My Friend & Polka Dot Parade #1 - Day 4

Happy Wednesday! Day 4 of the Papertrey Ink countdown is upon us and I have a few more cards for you using both of my new sets...My Mother, My Friend and Polka Dot Parade #1. I want to thank each of you for visiting everyday...your positive comments and e-mails mean so much to me! A lot of you have sent sweet notes about how my cards make you 'smile'....THAT makes me extremely happy. If I can put a smile on your face then my day is perfect. :)

Let's get to our projects for the day, shall we!? The cards I'm sharing with you today are ones that I created when I was creating my projects for day 1. So if you are wondering WHY more cards with the same colors...that is why! :) **It has nothing at all to do with that fact that I am completely addicted to using these colors all together...nope, nothing at all!**

2

I'm keeping my first few cards pretty clean and simple...no layering or extra embellishments, which was a nice change for me. I am loving the solid frames in this set.  I started with a basic piece of white cardstock (4" x 5.25) and then started stamping my frames. One of the nice things about these frame images is that they nestle perfectly together...kinda like a puzzle piece. Those were stamped in Hawaiian Shores, Pure Poppy and Summer Sunrise. I then used the long vine image and stamped on both sides of my frames in Simply Chartreuse. For a last touch I added a little bird, from Tweet Talk, and my sentiment, from Flower Fusion #2.

4

Next up is a Happy Birthday card for Mom. For this one I used both the long and short vine included in My Mother, My Friend. In between stamping the vines I stamped the three different sized flowers and also stamped a few tiny flowers.

3

'Happy Birthday' is from Think Big Favorites #12.

6

More colorful and cheery flowers on this Mother's Day card. I first stamped my sentiment and then stamped my flowers above. The leaves are from Heart-2-Heart #7.

5

A bit of rustic twine and a Hawaiian Shores button complete this.

7

And up last for today is a sweet bunny card featuring the little bunny from Polka Dot Parade #1. I started by stamping my bunnies across my white cardstock and then stamped the grass image from Hanging Out underneath them. The little flowers you see are from the set as well.

10

The bunny tails were die cut using the coordinating die collection and then adhered with dimensional adhesive. Lastly, I added a couple of doilies and a cute red gingham bow.

Just one more day to go until the sets can be seen in full but until then there is still more to see today from the rest of the PTI gang...

  • Nichole Heady
  • Dawn McVey
  • Lizzie Jones
  • Maile Belles
  • Heather Nichols

Enjoy your day!

My Mother, My Friend & Polka Dot Parade #1 - Day 3

We are half way through this months Papertrey Ink countdown. YEAH! So happy you all have stopped by to say hello. I have more projects for you today using My Mother, My Friend and Polka Dot Parade #1 and it's another lengthy post so I'm going to jump right into it.

For today I went a little big and prepped a LARGE amount of my embellishments before I started. I also created a few fabric flowers that I thought would be fun to use on a card or two. I'm so addicted to beautiful fabric and can't get enough of it. The striped fabric flower you see is what inspired my color combo for today. That particular fabric is from Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane collection.

Let's switch things up a bit and start the day off with a card using Polka Dot Parade #1. The little bunny is perfect for creating a baby card and that's just what I did here. I mixed the word 'BUNNY', from Polka Dot Parade #1, with 'Welcome, little baby bee' from Baby Button Bits. I just didn't ink up the 'bee' and replaced it with the 'BUNNY'. I stamped a small flower, from My Mother, My Friend, on the bunnies tales in Pure Poppy ink and gave the bunnies floppy ears by lightly scoring across their ears and folding. A bit of lace and a Pure Poppy button were added to complete this one.

Here is another 'BUNNY' card featuring a little peek-a-boo bunny. I stamped my sentiment onto a die cut frame from My Mother, My Friend.  The tiny flowers along the bottom are from the Polka Dot Parade #1 set.

7

The flowers around the frame were die cut from the My Mother, My Friend die collection and stamped with the flower images from the set. I added a bit of cream twine and Pure Poppy button to finish this one off.

This card features a couple of the My Mother, My Friend die cut frames and large die cut flower. The letters to spell out 'MOM' were die cut using the Block Alphabet die collection. 'Thanks for believing in me' is also from My Mother, My Friend.

11

I added a couple of pearls and a couple of die cut leaves from Heart-2-Heart #7 to finish it. I have to say that Heart-2-Heart #7 has been coming in quite handy. I seem to be using those leaves a lot lately! :)

'Happy Birthday My Friend' ...using more images and dies from My Mother, My Friend. Lots of flowers and lace on this one.

9

And last but not least...here is a card using one of those fun fabric flowers that I created. This fabric is also from the Heather Bailey collection I mentioned above, Nicey Jane.

And that wraps up day three for me. You'll want to be sure and stop by to visit these ladies...
